Our meat chickens are raised on a rotational grazing system. They get a fresh section of pasture almost daily. Our chickens love the fresh air, clean water and healthy environment.
Compared with commercially raised poultry, pasture-raised poultry offers you more "good" fats, and fewer "bad" fats. They are richer in antioxidants; including vitamins E, beta-carotene, and vitamin C. Furthermore, they do not contain traces of added hormones, antibiotics or other drugs.
Our chickens start their first few weeks out in "brooders." These boxes with heat lamps, keep the chicks warm like being under mom. Then they go into their pasture coops where they move around the pasture for the next few weeks.
It takes us about 9 weeks to grow our chickens, much longer than conventional growers- around 5 to 6 weeks for the same weight. Why the difference? We feed a healthy ration and we train them to feed off the grass and bugs and try to get them plenty of exercise. Slowing down their growth rate gives you a healthier chicken to eat.
We haven't decided what we're going to do for 2015 for chickens yet. We are meeting with our state representatives about some changes to the laws to make them easier to sell.
Thanks for your cooperation and support.
