Our happy healthy chickens enjoy their pasture. They have fresh pasture to graze, preen and socialize in. We use a rotational grazing system, so they move to a fresh section of pasture every few days.
We raise heritage breeds-- our favorites are Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks, and Black Australopes. But our flock contains a variety of chickens. We seem to be a safe haven for many chickens and we receive many as gifts.
So Why Pastured chickens? They will get up to 30 percent of their nutritional needs from insects, grass, clover and other greens. As a result, their eggs have higher amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, vitamin A, folic acid and carotenoids and half the cholesterol. We supplement with a grain-based layer food, that is regionally grown and milled. Their feed is hormone and antibiotic free.
Our current feed mix includes, peas, oats, and alfalfa. But based on times on the year, the ingredients may vary., We don't even feed soy or GMO-feeds and we try to keep the feed gluten-free.
Eggs are collected, washed, and packaged daily.
Our milk page has our weekly delivery schedule on it. Eggs are available at all our delivery locations and Farmer's Markets.
